The Speaker as Medium

SONIC ROOM privileges the loudspeaker over the headphone. Headphones place sound inside the head. Speakers place sound in the room. The listener hears it arriving from outside the body, interacting with physical space, reflecting off surfaces, developing acoustic presence. Low frequencies are felt in the chest and floor. Multichannel works create genuine spatial positioning. The body exists inside the sound rather than the sound existing inside the mind.
