Perceptual Education

Extended listening changes what the ear can hear. A visitor unfamiliar with drone music initially perceives sustained tones as static, unchanging. After twenty minutes of attention, micro-variation emerges: subtle fluctuations in pitch, slow evolution of harmonic content, interference patterns between overlapping frequencies. The sound did not change. The listening did. SONIC ROOM functions as a school for the ear. The curriculum is implicit: extended engagement with demanding material develops perceptual capacities. No instruction is necessary. The works teach by requiring attention.
